Having spent the better part of my life in the Pacific Northwest, I had become used to having a rainy 4th of July on most years. Which, of course, negated any photographic opportunities. There were obvious exceptions, such as the beautiful 4th in 2006 – but most years it was an exercise in being rained out or enjoying overcast skies.
My first Canada Day in Ottawa brought magnificent weather. My goal of the day was capturing the Parliament Hill fireworks display. But first, I needed to ensure the camera was in order – and that I had mastered my low light photography techniques. The result are the photos shown here – and a truly fantastic sunset.
